Settings & Brand Setup

Setting up your video defaults

Karl Fountain·

Everything in this guide is optional, reusable setup — you can generate AI videos right away using the Scene Builder or AI Auto-Generate without touching any of it. Setting these up once just means every video afterwards is faster to make and stays consistently on-brand, without repeating yourself each time.

Where to find it

Go to Settings → AI Video Studio. You'll see five tabs: Brand Kit, Voice, Avatars, My Videos, and Layout & Rules.

There's also a Settings → Brand Voice area, which is where your written Brand Voice and Brand Face photo live — see below.

Brand Voice & Brand Face

These aren't part of AI Video Studio itself, but almost every AI video feature reads from them, so it's worth setting up first:

  • Settings → Brand Voice → Brand Voice — a short description of your brand's tone, used to automatically polish avatar scripts and write drafts that sound like you.
  • Settings → Brand Voice → Brand Face — the photo used whenever you pick Brand Face as an avatar source, anywhere in AI video generation.

Neither is required — you can always use HeyGen's stock avatars and write your own scripts by hand — but both make the Scene Builder and AI Auto-Generate noticeably faster to use.

Brand Kit & Brand Glossary

Settings → AI Video Studio → Brand Kit

Brand Kit

Pulls your brand's colors and logo automatically from your website:

  1. Enter your website URL.
  2. Click Create Brand Kit (or Recreate to refresh it later).
  3. It imports in the background — usually under 2 minutes — then shows your logo and color swatches.

If HeyGen didn't extract a color quite right, click + Fix or fill in colors to set the Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, and Accent colors by hand, and choose which logo to use if it found more than one. Click Save Colors when you're done.

Logo and font uploads aren't possible — only choosing which already-detected logo plays which role.

Once set up, Apply my Brand Kit becomes available in AI Auto-Generate.

Brand Glossary

Fixes how specific words or names get pronounced — for example, teaching a voice to say "HeyGen" as "hey-jen" instead of guessing.

  1. Give it an optional name.
  2. Add one or more Term / Says as pairs.
  3. Click Create Glossary (or Save Glossary to update it later).

Once set up, a Use Brand Glossary for correct pronunciation checkbox appears in both the Scene Builder and AI Auto-Generate.

Voice

Settings → AI Video Studio → Voice

Saved Voices

Your personal shortlist of voices — anything you've cloned, designed, or explicitly saved. Star one to make it your default, so it's automatically pre-selected wherever you pick a voice.

Click + Browse voices to save to search HeyGen's full stock catalog (filter by language and gender) and bookmark any you like straight into your Saved Voices.

Clone Your Own Voice

For when the stock voices aren't enough:

  1. Click + Clone a Voice.
  2. Name it.
  3. Upload or record a clear sample — one clear recording, ideally 30 seconds or more, of a single speaker.
  4. Confirm you have the right to clone this voice.
  5. Click Create Voice Clone.

Design a Voice

Describe a voice in words instead of picking one:

  1. Click + Design a Voice.
  2. (Optional) Check the Prompting tips for guidance on gender/age, accent, tone, pacing, and use case.
  3. Write a description, e.g. "A warm, confident male voice with a slight British accent", and optionally set a gender and locale.
  4. Click Generate — HeyGen produces a few real candidates you can preview and pick from.
  5. Click Keep this voice on the one you like.

Avatars

Settings → AI Video Studio → Avatars

Your Avatars

Every avatar look you've prepared — from an upload, your Brand Face, or an AI edit — shown as a gallery. These are exactly what shows up under My Avatars whenever you're picking an avatar in the Scene Builder or AI Auto-Generate.

Click ✨ Edit with AI on any avatar to describe a change (e.g. a different background or expression) and generate a new look — your original is never overwritten, so you build up a small library of looks over time.

Add a New Avatar Look

Add a fresh photo from your Brand Face, your Media Library, or by Upload Photo. A clear, front-facing portrait with good lighting and a neutral expression gives the best results.

My Videos

Settings → AI Video Studio → My Videos

A full history of every AI video you've ever generated or attempted, newest first — showing its status, when it was created/updated, and a snippet of its script with a Copy script button.

If a video is still shown as Queued or Processing, click Check status to manually re-check with HeyGen — useful if a video actually finished but the automatic notification didn't arrive. Once it's done, a View in Media Library link appears.

This exact same list is also available as a My Videos button directly inside the Scene Builder and AI Auto-Generate panels, so you don't need to leave what you're doing to check on an older video.

Layout & Rules

Settings → AI Video Studio → Layout & Rules

A default set of instructions sent to HeyGen's AI ahead of your script on every AI Auto-Generate video — this is what keeps your avatar's framing, blinking, and mouth movement looking natural and consistent, instead of drifting from video to video.

Edit the text, then click Save. Click Reset to default at any time to go back to CoPost's recommended starting point. Whatever's saved here is what pre-fills the same field inside AI Auto-Generate — it's always still editable (or can be switched off entirely) for any individual video from there.
