Composer - Complete Guide
This guide covers everything on the Composer screen, section by section.
Composer is where you create, format, and schedule posts across every connected social account — all from a single screen. Write once and tailor the wording per platform, let AI draft or illustrate the post for you, set platform-specific options, and publish now, schedule for later, or drop it into your posting queue.
This guide covers everything on the Composer screen, section by section.
Starting a post
At the top of the writing pane are several ways to start:
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Write Yourself | The default — a blank canvas, write your own caption. |
| CoBots (AI) | Draft or design with AI — chat your way through any part of the post with CoChat, build an on-brand caption with the guided CoCreate flow, or generate an image with CoVision. See CoBots (AI) below. |
| Template | Start from one of your saved post templates, or generate a caption from an AI viral template. See Templates and viral templates below. |
| Hooks | Grab a scroll-stopping opening line from your hook library, then either drop it straight into your caption or have CoWriter build a full post around it. See Hooks below. |
| Drafts | Jump into any other draft post in the zone without leaving Composer — search, favorite, and reopen drafts from one panel. |
A further tab, Hashtags, sits alongside these — it doesn't start a post, but lets you drop a saved group of hashtags into your caption in one click at any point while writing.
Choosing a post type
Above the editor is a row of post-type pills:
- Post — a standard post (the default; supports every connected platform)
- Thread Post — a multi-part thread (X/Twitter, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon)
- Reel / Short — short-form video (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube)
- Story — a Story (Facebook, Instagram)
- Poll — a poll (X/Twitter, LinkedIn)
- Carousel — a multi-image/slide carousel (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok)
Picking a post type does two things automatically:
- Filters the account list in "Post to" down to accounts on platforms that support that type — so you can't accidentally try to post a Poll to Instagram, for example.
- Sets the right defaults for each platform (e.g. marks the post as a Reel on Instagram, sets the correct publish type on TikTok).
If you switch types after selecting accounts, any account that no longer qualifies is deselected automatically.
Writing your content
The editor card has two areas:
- Main / variant chips, top of the card — the Main caption is your default wording. Branch off a variant — platform-specific wording that overrides the Main caption just for that account — either by clicking the + on a platform's chip, or, once you have more than four platforms in use (or you're on mobile), via the collapsed variant picker: a single dropdown that groups your platforms into Live variants (already have their own wording — click to switch to one) and Create a variant (still sharing Main's text — click one to branch it off). Switch between Main and any variant by selecting its chip or picker entry.
- The text box itself — type or paste your caption directly. You can also paste an image straight into the editor from your clipboard, and it'll attach to the post.
Below the text box is a small toolbar:
- Emoji picker
- {{Variables}} — insert saved variables (e.g. a link or promo code) that expand automatically
- Quick AI actions — run a quick AI edit on your current text without leaving the editor
- Tag a company page — appears only when posting to LinkedIn alone
- Instagram Reel music — appears only when the Reel/Short type is active and Instagram is selected. Click to open the audio picker; once a track is set, the icon jumps you into Instagram's platform options to edit or remove it.
Facebook colored background — when writing a short, text-only post for Facebook, an option appears to pick one of Facebook's colored background templates instead of a photo.
Poll builder
When Poll is the active post type, the media area is replaced by the poll builder:
- Poll length — Days / Hours / Minutes. If only LinkedIn is selected, Hours and Minutes are disabled (LinkedIn only supports day-length polls). If both X and LinkedIn are selected, you'll see a note that LinkedIn will only use the day value.
- Poll options — starts with two blank options; add more or remove down to the minimum.
The poll question itself is typed into the main editor, same as any other post.
First comment
For post types that support it (Post, Thread Post, Poll, Carousel — not Reel/Short or Story), a First Comment card sits below the editor. Use it to add one or more comments that post automatically right after your content goes live — a common way to keep the caption clean while still dropping hashtags or a link.
CoBots (AI)
Open the CoBots (AI) tab to bring in three AI tools:
- CoChat — a free-form chat with AI about your post. Ask it to help with any aspect of what you're writing, attach up to three images for context, and pull your current caption into the conversation with "Include Caption" so it can react to what you've already written.
- CoCreate — a guided, conversational flow that builds an on-brand caption for you step by step: it suggests a topic based on your brand voice (or you can supply your own), asks which tone to write in from a set of viral tones, and then hands back a finished, on-brand caption. From there you can go straight into CoVision to generate a matching image for it. (Requires your brand voice to be set up first.)
- CoVision — generates on-brand images from a text description. You can generate straight from your current caption ("Include Caption"), add your own reference image or reuse images already on the post, enhance the prompt using your brand's image spec, and toggle on your Brand Face so it's featured in the generated image (set up under Settings → Brand Voice → Brand Face).
Anything CoChat or CoCreate writes, or CoVision creates, can be inserted straight into your post.
Choosing where to post
The Post to section lists your connected accounts as avatars — click one to select or deselect it. The list only shows accounts on platforms that support your current post type (see Choosing a post type). The count of currently-selected accounts is shown at the top of the section.
Once at least one account with platform-specific settings is selected, an Edit platform options button appears — this opens a dedicated panel for anything platform-specific that doesn't belong in the main editor.
Platform options
| Platform | Options available |
|---|---|
| Add music to a Reel; share Reel to feed; Trial Reel (with graduation strategy once eligible); tag collaborators | |
| X (Twitter) | Who can reply to the post |
| YouTube | Category, tags, visibility, and license |
| TikTok | Privacy setting (some options may be disabled/greyed out depending on your Branded Content setting, with a tooltip explaining why), plus comment/duet/stitch permissions |
If an account is one of several accounts on the same platform (e.g. two Instagram accounts), platform options are shared across all of them — set it once and it applies everywhere that platform is used in this post.
Templates and viral templates
The Template tab lets you start a post from one of your own saved templates, or generate a caption using an AI Viral Template — a proven post structure (hook, build, explain, ending, etc.) that AI fills in for your topic. To use one:
- Switch to the AI Viral Templates sub-tab and type in what your post is about.
- Pick a template card (preview its structure first if you like).
- Click Generate Post.
That combination generates a full caption built on the chosen structure and your brand voice, and drops you back into the editor with it ready to review.
Hooks
Open the Hooks tab to browse your saved hook library (manage the library itself under Templates → Hooks). Each hook gives you two one-click options:
- Insert — drops the hook text into your caption as-is, so you can build the rest of the post around it yourself.
- Build post — hands the hook to CoWriter, which writes a full on-brand post around it, keeping the hook itself as the opening line word-for-word.
Post details
The Details card, in the Publish panel, holds:
- Slot Collection / Label — tag the post with a label, or link it to a slot collection.
- Assign to — assign the post to a team member or client, so they know it's theirs to review or action. Only shown on Team plans and above.
- Title — needed for Pinterest, YouTube, Reddit, and Carousel posts (used as the Pin title, video title, post title, etc. depending on platform). Only shown when it's relevant to your selected accounts.
- Pinterest board — pick which board to pin to; shown per Pinterest account when Pinterest is selected. A Pin URL field is also available here.
For an internal team note on the post, use Post Notes instead — see Collaboration and review below.
Scheduling and publishing
The Schedule card offers three modes:
- Publish Now
- Schedule for Later — pick a specific date and time (shown in your brand's timezone)
- Add to Queue — drops the post into the next open slot for the label you've chosen above. This only works if that label is linked to a Post Slot Collection — a plain label with no slot collection attached has no queue to drop into, so make sure the label you pick is one you've set up as part of a Slot Collection.
The main action button at the bottom of the Publish panel adapts to the post's state:
- For a new or draft post, it reads Save as Draft (
Ctrl+S), with a dropdown offering Save and Close and Save as Template (to reuse this post's structure later). - When you're editing a post that's already Scheduled (or Scheduled Draft / awaiting approval / needs attention), the same button instead reads Save Changes (
Ctrl+S) and keeps the existing schedule as-is. Its dropdown offers Save and Close plus Convert to Draft (Remove from Schedule), if you decide you want to pull it out of the schedule after all. - Approve / Needs Attention — shown when a post is awaiting approval and you have approval permissions.
If you don't have edit permission on the post, save/publish actions are disabled and the panel shows a note that you're in viewer mode.
Collaboration and review
- Warnings (top right) — flags anything that needs attention before you can publish (blocking) or a heads-up worth knowing (non-blocking), broken down per platform.
- Post Notes — internal team comments on the post, separate from the public caption. @mention a teammate to loop them in directly.
- History — (when editing an existing post) shows a log of changes made to the post. If any entry is a warning or failure (e.g. a publish error), the History button itself flags a small warning badge so you know there's something worth checking without opening the panel.
- Preview — see exactly how the post will render on each selected platform before you publish.
