Reconnecting a Social Account
Why social accounts sometimes disconnect, how to spot one that needs attention, and how to reconnect it in a couple of clicks.
Now and then, a social account connected to CoPost needs reconnecting. Until it is, CoPost can't post to that account, so it's worth fixing as soon as you see it.
How you'll know
- On the Integrations page, the account shows a red Needs reconnection status, often with a short hint about why. A banner at the top says "One or more connections need attention".
- By email, you'll get a message saying your account "needs attention" or "needs reconnecting".
- On a failed post, the failure log may say something like Token expired.
Why it happens
Social platforms don't give apps like CoPost permanent access. Common reasons a connection stops working are:
- The access has expired. Some platforms, including LinkedIn and Meta (Facebook and Instagram), put an expiry date on the access they give CoPost. CoPost renews it automatically where it can, but some platforms make you reconnect by hand from time to time.
- You changed your password on the platform, or the platform logged you out everywhere.
- Access was removed, for example in the platform's own settings for connected apps, or by someone removing you as an admin of a Facebook Page.
- Permissions were skipped during connection, so CoPost doesn't have everything it needs to post.
- The account changed type, for example an Instagram account switched away from a Business account.
- The platform changed its rules or API, which sometimes means everyone has to reconnect.
How to reconnect an account
- Go to Manage > Integrations in the left-hand menu.
- On the Socials tab, find the account showing Needs reconnection.
- Click the Refresh Connection button (the circular arrow) next to it.
- Read the notes for that platform and continue.
- Log in to the platform with the account you want connected, and accept every permission CoPost asks for.
- If you're asked to choose pages or profiles, make sure the one you're reconnecting is selected.
When you're back in CoPost, the account should show Connected in green.
Reconnecting keeps the account's place in your Brand Space, so your scheduled posts for it stay as they are. Some of the account's default post options may go back to their defaults, so it's worth checking them on the Integrations page. Pinterest keeps its default board.
ℹ️ Use Refresh Connection rather than disconnecting and connecting again. Disconnecting removes the account from your post slot collections, and scheduled posts won't go out to it while it's disconnected.
ℹ️ Only Owners, Co-Owners and Clients can refresh connections. If you're an Editor or Viewer, ask one of them to do it.
Bluesky
Bluesky uses an App Password rather than a login screen. If you deleted the App Password in Bluesky, create a new one and enter it when you refresh the connection. See Connecting Bluesky to CoPost.
CoPost connects whichever Pinterest account you're logged in to in your browser. If the wrong account reconnects, log out of Pinterest, log back in with the right account, then refresh the connection again.
What about posts that failed while it was disconnected?
Posts that were due while the account was disconnected won't have gone out to that account. You'll find them on the Failed tab of the Content page. See Troubleshooting failed posts for how to send them again.
Still not working?
Facebook or Instagram
- You need to be an admin of the Facebook Page.
- Instagram must be a Business account linked to that Facebook Page.
- When Facebook asks which businesses and Pages CoPost can access, make sure the right ones are ticked, or choose all of them.
The account keeps disconnecting
Check the platform's settings for connected or authorised apps, and make sure CoPost hasn't been removed. If your company uses single sign-on or security tools that log you out regularly, those can also end the connection.
I can't see the account at all
Make sure you're in the right Brand Space. Accounts belong to the Brand Space they were connected in.
If you're still stuck, log a support ticket from Settings > Support and tell us which account and platform it is.
