Letting Clients Connect Their Own Social Accounts
Send a client a secure Client Connect Link so they can connect their social accounts to your Brand Space without a CoPost login or sharing passwords.
If you manage social media for clients, you no longer need their passwords or a screen-share to connect their accounts. Send them a Client Connect Link. They open it, log in to each platform themselves and approve the connection, and the accounts appear in your Brand Space.
Your client doesn't need a CoPost account, and you never see their login details.
Before you start
- Use the right Brand Space. The link connects accounts to the Brand Space you're in when you create it. If you keep each client in their own Brand Space, switch to that client's space first.
- Check your account limit. Accounts your client connects count towards your plan's social account limit. If the limit is reached, the client page tells them there's no room for more accounts.
- Owners, Co-Owners and Clients can create Client Connect Links, because they're the roles that can add social accounts.
Creating a Client Connect Link
- Go to Manage > Integrations in the left-hand menu.
- Click Client Connect Link. If you already have active links, the button says Manage Client Connect Links.
- Optionally, enter a Client name. It's only for you, so you can tell your links apart later.
- Click Create link.
Your link appears straight away. You can now:
- Click Copy and send the link to your client however you like, or
- Enter your Client's email and click Send link to have CoPost email it to them.
ℹ️ For security, this is the only time you can see the link. Copy it or email it before you close the dialog. If you lose it, just create another one.
Links work for 7 days. A link can be used to connect as many accounts as your plan has room for, so your client can connect Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn in one visit.
What your client sees
When your client opens the link, they see a page called Connect your accounts to [your Brand Space name], showing your logo and who invited them. It also shows when the link expires.
For each platform they want to connect, they:
- Click Connect on the platform card.
- Read the short notes about that platform and continue.
- Log in to the platform and approve CoPost's access. They should accept all the permissions requested, otherwise CoPost can't post for them.
- Pick which pages or profiles to connect, for platforms like Facebook where one login can manage several pages.
Bluesky and Mastodon work slightly differently. For Bluesky, the client enters their handle and a Bluesky App Password; see Connecting Bluesky to CoPost. For Mastodon, they pick their Mastodon server first.
Accounts they've connected show under Already connected at the bottom of the page.
A message you can send your client
You can copy this, edit it to suit, and send it with the link:
Hi! To let us manage your social media, please open the link below and click Connect on each account you'd like us to post to. You'll log in to each platform yourself, so we never see your password. You don't need to create an account. The link works for 7 days.
Managing your links
Click Manage Client Connect Links on the Integrations page to see your Active links. Each one shows:
- The client name you gave it
- When it expires
- How many accounts have been connected with it
- Who it was emailed to, if you sent it by email
Click the delete icon next to a link to cancel it straight away. Accounts that were already connected through it stay connected.
Troubleshooting
My client says "This link has expired". The link is more than 7 days old or has been deleted. Create a new link and send it to them.
My client says "There's no room for more accounts right now". You've reached your plan's social account limit. Disconnect accounts you no longer need on the Integrations page, or upgrade your plan, and ask your client to try again.
My client says "We could not find any pages associated with your login". The account they logged in with doesn't manage any pages or profiles of that type. For Facebook and Instagram, they need to be an admin of the Facebook Page, and Instagram must be a Business account linked to that Page.
An account connected but posts aren't going out. The client may have skipped some permissions. On the Integrations page, use Refresh Connection on that account, or send your client a new link and ask them to connect it again and accept all permissions.
