Posting to Instagram with CoPost
How to connect an Instagram Business account and use the Instagram options in Composer, including Reels, Stories, trial reels and collaborators.
CoPost publishes to Instagram through Meta, so there are a couple of things to set up before you connect.
Before you connect
- Your Instagram account must be a Business account.
- It must be linked to a Facebook Page that you are an admin of.
You can switch to a Business account and link a Page in the Instagram app's settings.
Connecting Instagram
- Go to Manage > Integrations and click Connect on Instagram.
- Log in to Facebook and give CoPost access to the Business and Page that your Instagram account is linked to. If you're not sure, choose all of them.
- Accept every permission Meta asks for.
- Choose the account from the list of Instagram accounts connected to your Page, and finish connecting.
If your Instagram account doesn't appear, it usually means it isn't a Business account or isn't linked to a Page you admin. See Connecting social accounts to CoPost for the full walkthrough.
Instagram options in Composer
When you select an Instagram account in Composer, you'll see these options.
Publish type
- Post: a normal feed post. Add up to 10 images to make a carousel, or a single video. You can't mix images and videos in one post.
- Reel: a short video. Switch on Share reel to feed to show it on your profile grid as well as in the Reels tab.
- Story: shown for 24 hours.
Trial reels
Switch on Trial reel to show a Reel to people who don't follow you first. Instagram only offers this to accounts with a minimum number of followers. Under After the trial, choose:
- I'll share it manually in the Instagram app, or
- Share automatically if it performs well.
Collaborators
Use Add collaborator to invite up to 3 accounts to co-author a post or Reel. Each collaborator must accept the invite in Instagram before the post shows on their profile. Collaborators aren't available for Stories.
Good to know
- Captions can be up to 2,200 characters.
- Links in captions aren't clickable on Instagram. Use a Link in Bio page instead.
- See Platform requirements and limits for image and video sizes.
