About Text-on-Background Captions
CoPost now has an ever-growing selection of colourful background templates, ready and available to be the background for your captions and social media hooks directly from Composer.
All you need to do is create a caption, either by writing one yourself or use our AI to create hooks or captions, select a template, font and font color and a stunning image will be created ready to post to your socials. It also creates each image to the correct size for each social platform.
Getting Started
- Head over to the Composer area from the left-hand navigation menu
Global vs Split Variants
In CoPost's Composer you can select multiple social channels and either create a global caption (one caption for all platforms) or split each social into variants (custom caption for each platform)
If you want to post the same template with the same text to all socials for this post, you are best starting off with a global caption, that way when the template is generated, it will create a seperate template for each social platform with the correct dimensions for the platform.
In contrast, if you would like to have a different background colour or text per platform, split the socials into its own variant first and create a template per platform using the social tabs on the left-hand side of the composer window.
Using a Global Caption
- Select as many social platforms you wish to post to from the top social buttons
- Go to Creating the Caption

- Select as many social platforms you wish to post to from the top social buttons
- Click on the social tabs on the left hand side for any platforms you want to make a variation for
Creating the Caption
Creating a caption can be as simple as just writing some text in the composer editor but here we will run through using AI CoWriter to create an on-brand social media hook.
Skip this part if you would just like to write a caption and start Selecting and Customizing your Template
The Social Media Hook Generator
- Click on the CoBot icon in the right hand window
- Select Hook Generator from the dropdown
- Leave Brand Voice turned on, to edit your brand voice, click the settings icon
- Remember to save the new brand voice settings if you have made any changes
- Write any extra instructions so our AI knows exactly what the hooks need to focus on (Optional)
- Click Run to start generating the hooks
30 Hooks will be created for you to choose from
- Select which hook you would like to use in the results window
- The other hooks are saved in the Database in case you would like to retrieve and use at a later time

Selecting and Customizing your Template
Now we have a caption, let's select a background and customize the text
- Click on the Add Background button below the composer window
- From here you can select a template, there are lots to choose from and we are adding more all the time
- Turn on a text border by selecting a Highlight size from the dropdown
- Change the text and highlight colors from the bottom color pickers
- When you are happy with the look, click Generate Template
Final Steps
Results using Global Caption
- If at the beginning you chose a global caption, a template will be created for each social platform a variant will be automatically created for each one
- You will see that the social tabs to the left are now engaged with no + icons, you can flick through the tabs to see each variant and also you can see the previews for each social on from the right hand preview window
Results using Single Variant
- If you chose a single variant then the template will simply now be attached to that variant.
The post is now ready to be posted or scheduled
